On the road: Bringing vital, free veterinary care to Vancouver

In just a few weeks Paws for Hope will be on the road again, offering free and vital veterinary services for pets and the people who love them.

This time, we will be in Vancouver, holding the second of our two annual free community animal health clinics

We offer these clinics in partnership with supportive housing organizations that serve people on low incomes or who face other barriers. In November, we’re proud to be working with McLaren Housing in downtown Vancouver.

Just like our last community clinic in Surrey in April, we will be deploying a team of veterinarians and technicians who meet with pet parents to talk about their pets’ health. The clinic will offer full examinations, as well as vaccinations and other preventative care.

These events are also an opportunity for us to connect with pet guardians, building lasting relationships that serve as the foundation for ongoing care.

Those connections can make a big difference for pets like little Cece, who we first introduced you to last month. We met Cece and her guardian at our clinic in Surrey this spring. Thanks to the connection we built with them, we were recently able to connect Cece with a safe and caring foster home through our No Pet Left Behind program while her guardian received hospital care.

We have been offering this service for 11 years, helping provide treatment and support for countless pet parents.

The routine but important preventive veterinary care we offer at our clinics can also have a lasting impact on pets’ lives, helping ward off avoidable future health issues. Not only is that an animal welfare issue, it’s a human one too: pets are sometimes someone’s only constant source of companionship, and losing them to a health or financial challenge can be devastating. It is a core tenet of our philosophy that happy and healthy animals are linked to happy and healthy people and communities.

As a part of our commitment to the health and well-being of both animals and the people who love them, we also offer additional follow-up veterinary care for pets’ additional needs that can’t be met during the clinic.

That follow-up care includes a range of services like spay and neuter procedures, dental surgery, orthopedic surgery, diagnosis and treatment of diabetes and biopsies and lump removal.

There is no other free service like this in the Lower Mainland, and there is no question it comes at a cost.

It costs Paws for Hope about $25,000 to offer our two annual free clinics. They’re something we couldn’t do without the amazing support of our community of partners and donors just like you. We’re about halfway to meeting our fundraising target – can you help us get over the top?

Donations to our Clinic Fundraising Campaign will:

1. Help to ensure these loved pets get the veterinary care they deserve.

2. Keep these loved pets out of our overcrowded shelters.

3. Enable us to continue supporting vulnerable people and their pets.

As a small registered charity, we rely on the support of donors and partners to make this work possible. Every dollar goes directly towards supporting pets and the people who love them.

A massive thank you to everyone who has already donated to help us with this important work. It is not an understatement to say that clinics like this could never happen without your incredible support.
