When crisis struck, you helped keep Cece safe

There is almost nothing more stressful than dealing with a serious illness. Nothing except maybe worrying about who will care for a loved one when you’re dealing with that health crisis.

That’s the situation little Cece’s pet parent recently found themselves in, and one you helped alleviate.

Cece and her guardian, a pair of inseparable companions, became part of the Paws for Hope community back in April. That’s when we held our most recent free community veterinary clinic with Options Community Services in Surrey.

When Cece’s guardian became seriously ill recently and required a stay in hospital, the Surrey Animal Resouce Centre initially took Cece in for short-term compassionate boarding. But when it became clear that Cece’s guardian would need a longer stay in the hospital, they connected with us for help.

Through our No Pet Left Behind urgent foster care program, we were able to connect little Cece with a foster home for a month while her guardian recovered in the hospital.

Not only did Cece get a stable, caring and attentive place to stay, taking stress off her guardian, but she also got some additional veterinary care. While she was in her foster home, we were able to arrange for her to have a lump removed and to receive some needed dental care.

Everything went well for both Cece and her guardian and the two have both since recovered and are inseparable once again.

But this story and others like it are only possible because of the help of our generous community of donors. Without you, we couldn’t host community vet clinics that both provide free, essential care and help connect us with pets and guardians who may need our help down the road.

That support is just as critical to our No Pet Left Behind program, which provides foster care for people facing a variety of crises, including health, mental health, addictions and people escaping violence. Every dollar we receive increases the chances we can say yes to one more family like Cece’s.

At Paws for Hope, knowing we can provide this kind of support to loving pet families like Cece and her guardian means the world, and we’re so glad we’re able to do this work together with you.
