On October 23, 2013, Paws for Hope Animal Foundation is pleased to host a keynote lunch with Josey Kitson, executive director for World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) Canada.
The keynote, “Supporting Animal Welfare: In your community and abroad” will provide an opportunity to hear about the innovate work WSPA Canada has done to save the lives of dogs, both here in Canada and internationally.
Kathy Powelson, executive director of Paws for Hope Animal Foundation says they are very excited to have Ms. Kitson come to Vancouver. “We are strong promoters of working in your local community to improve the lives of animals. For those individuals who want to help animals outside of Canada, we believe the most effective way to bring about sustainable change is to support organizations that are doing the work directly in the community, rather than importing animals into Canada. It will be wonderful for people to hear about ways they can support animal welfare both in their own community and as a global citizen.”
Josey Kitson is also looking forward to the opportunity to share work that she is both passionate about and very proud of. “When I first began my career with WSPA Canada, I oversaw the First Nations Dogs Project, which addressed the issue of dog overpopulation in First Nations communities. I am very proud of this work. We are also doing some really innovative things internationally to end the inhumane practice of dog culls as a response to rabies that protect both dogs and people from this preventable disease.”
Both Powelson and Kitson are hopeful that this unique opportunity to discuss animal welfare issues will be the beginning of an ongoing dialogue with the community and other animal welfare organizations in an effort to improve the lives of animals.

About Paws for Hope Animal Foundation
Paws for Hope Animal Foundation was established in 2011 to create a sustainable animal welfare system in British Columbia after recognizing the Province’s animal support system was broken and in a state of crisis. Paws for Hope strengthens and empowers the existing animal welfare system in hopes of creating a more complete, cohesive network of optimized organizations improving the lives of animals in BC.
The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA)has worked to expose animal cruelty and prevent animal suffering for more than 30 years. Working with individuals, organizations and governments across the globe, our campaign work ranges from putting animals at the heart of farming to protecting animals in disasters. Consultative status with the United Nations means we have a unique international platform to prove that the lives of animals are inextricably linked to our own, and now more than ever is the time to stop their suffering.
