Small Animal Rescue Society of British Columbia receives Veterinary Care grant to help rats rescued from hotel in the DTES.

Our Executive Director was pretty excited to be able to help out in getting these rats to a better life. When she arrived at the hotel to transport them to their foster home, the staff were so relieved to know that there was an organization dedicated to helping out our smaller furry friends.

Once these eight rats were in foster care, their health needs were assessed. All required to be spayed / neutered; two were having respiratory issues, and one has an eye that is starting to bulge out. In addition to getting emergency care for these critters, Small Animal Rescue also recently took in two rats, with tumours, that were being given away on Craigslist for free snake food.

Because few shelters take in small animals, and those that do only take in a very limited number, the burden all too often falls on this volunteer run organization to take in discarded critters.

We are very pleased to be able to provide a $500 grant to help with veterinary care costs, and thrilled to share with you pictures of them in thier new digs.
