Vancouver, BC: Paws for Hope Animal Foundation announced a $5,000 donation to Canadian Disaster Animal Relief Team (CDART) to help with their efforts in providing emergency relief, sheltering and veterinary care to animals impacted by the wildfires devastating parts of British Columbia.
“It’s amazing witnessing the rescue community step up and come together to help animals and their families during this incredible crisis in our province,” says Kathy Powelson, Executive Director, “Up until this point, the majority of the fundraising campaigns have been directed towards people displaced by the fires, and we recognize that it is essential that the organizations on the ground helping the animals are also well supported.”
With over 40,000 people currently evacuated from their communities, many are struggling to house their companion and farm animals. CDART volunteers have been working on the ground with local groups such as Pet Safe Coalition to organize emergency relief—including food and bedding, temporary sheltering and when necessary, veterinary care.
Goldie was evacuated from Williams Lake with her family and came into the Surrey Evacuation Centre and had stopped eating. With the funds from our donation, CDART was able to send her into Scottsdale Veterinary Hospital, where they induced vomiting. One rock came up and two more will come out in her poop. We’re thankful Goldie got the emergency care she needed and will have a smile back on her face soon!
“We have had volunteers working around the clock,” says Heather Ferguson, CDART Regional Coordinator, “we are training new volunteers to keep up with the demand, and every new evacuation stretches our resources further. We are even too busy to fundraise and this donation is going to go a long way in helping us continue to be mobile and to ensure any animals we see that need veterinary care will get it“.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to donate.
