Partnerships creating sustainable animal welfare

Paws for Hope Animal Foundation is committed to building sustainable, long-term companion animal protection for dogs, cats, and small animals in B.C. Creating partnerships and supporting existing initiatives that are making a meaningful difference in the community is critical to achieving sustainable animal welfare. To do this, one of the first programs we established was our Guardian Angel Program. The Program offers services, initiatives, and funding opportunities to support qualified volunteer-run animal welfare and rescue charities in British Columbia. We work hard to build meaningful relationships within the animal welfare community so that we are able to respond to the needs of this isolated and under-supported group of dedicated and passionate people who work so hard to save the lives of companion animals across the Province.

In addition to operating the Whistler Animal Shelter,Whistler Animals Galore (WAG) provides outreach support to residents living on Mount Currie reservation. Through an Organizational Development Grant and a Veterinary Care Grant, we were able to support Animal Wellness and Education Clinics in the community. And we are very proud to share the highlights of the amazing work that WAG staff and volunteers accomplished.

Highlights of WAG Educational Seminars Include

  • Increased numbers of Mount Currie animals spayed and neutered
  • Increased animal welfare in Mount Currie
  • Increased surrender of animals to WAG
  • Decreased animal health problems and spread of diseases in the Mount Currie community
  • Increased community awareness of disease control, animal cruelty, and population control
  • 2014 WAG Educational Seminar Statistics

  • Four clinics offered
  • 69 animals assessed by vet
  • 30 of those animals it was the first vet visit
  • 11 animals were spayed and neutered after consultation
  • P1000360
