We are proud to partner with Black Sheep Organics to promote a Cruelty Free BC, and please to share this company profile.

Black Sheep Organics is an environmentally responsible company creating healthy, natural, hand-crafted dog grooming products in Vancouver, British Columbia. We use organic, locally sourced ingredients, we’ve adopted eco-friendly business practices, use minimal and recyclable packaging, and donate a portion of our profits to animal welfare and environmental causes.

We are a family business who are passionate about animals, health, and the great outdoors! Our aim is to make available a truly natural and healthy alternative to dog grooming products, create minimal impact on mother earth, and encourage a healthy lifestyle for both people and their dogs.

Adam Coladipietro

lives in Vancouver, British Columbia and cycles to work every single day – in the rain mostly, as it is the Wet Coast. A healthy, organic diet and loads of exercise keeps him fit as a fiddle. A past Boy Scout Leader, he’s as comfortable roughing it in the woods and atop mountains, as he is grooming dogs in the organic, eco-friendly dog grooming studio he owns along with his partner Hilary Barchash in Vancouver, British Columbia. Growing up on a farm in Ontario taught him the connection we share with Mother Nature, which is reflected in the products Black Sheep Organics produces.

Hilary Barchash

lives in Vancouver, British Columbia where she scales mountains year round and frolics by the sea. A connection to nature is the driving idea behind everything she does, from organic gardening to grooming dogs in the organic, eco-friendly dog grooming studio she owns along with her partner Adam Coladipietro in Vancouver. A lifetime spent working with domestic animals both great and small has shown her their dependence upon us, thus instilling in her a responsibility to provide them with a lifetime of good health, naturally.

We’re tree huggers at the root of things. A deep connection to nature and a passion for animals is where it all started. So when Adam and Hilary found themselves drawn to Vancouver, British Columbia in 2005, they were thrilled to find like-minded folk who love their environment, and love their dogs! Out of this was born Spa Dog Organic Dog Spa, an eco-friendly, organic dog grooming studio in the Commercial Drive neighbourhood of Vancouver.

Hilary and Adam wanted a complete line of truly organic products with trusted, locally sourced ingredients, and eco-friendly packaging. They wanted the healthiest, most eco-friendly, all natural products possible, so they set out to create their own, and found they really love making them!

The Black Sheep Organics line of organic grooming products was sold in their little grooming studio, and as the story goes, the people and the dogs love them! Now Black Sheep products are sold at other little shops and online to folks just like you!

For us, being Cruelty Free was an absolute. As consumers ourselves, we have always sought out cruelty free products, and lauded those companies who put in the extra effort to create those products. So when we found ourselves as creators of a pet care product line, naturally it could be no other way.

Thanks to groups like Leaping Bunny and PETA who keep databases of cruelty free companies through their certification programs, sourcing materials is fairly easy. As most of our ingredients are organic, the suppliers we use tend to be eco- and animal friendly as they often go hand-in-hand. Black Sheep Organics is registered with Leaping Bunny, which means all suppliers we use need to be cruelty free as well.

We live in a time of marvelous technological advances which allow us to do such things as grow human tissue in a Petri dish, or by examining proteins in a test tube, enabling us to use humane methods of proving cosmetic ingredients safe. New test methods are often more accurate, quicker, and less costly. Additionally, new products can be proven safe by using established ingredients. The time for animal testing is over.

How do we test our products you ask? Why, on ourselves, of course!
