Paws for Hope’s Pets Are Not Products campaign educates B.C. residents about the animal welfare issues associated with the retail sale of animals in stores, online and in newspapers.

Since 2011, we have been working to encourage residents to lobby their municipal governments to ban the retail sale of cats, dogs and rabbits. However, all levels of government have abdicated their responsibility for the welfare of companion animals bred for profit, and contest that this issue is someone else’s responsibility and/or they state that the problem is so big, a municipal bylaw will not change anything.

Our efforts to protect these animals has now shifted to the consumer; to highlight the inhumane practices that occur when animals are bred for profit and to provide them with alternative options for acquiring a pet for their family.

Today, 28 volunteers came out to help spread this message in front of Pet Habitat, Metrotown. Our hope is that we increased awareness, and our message will spread. #petsarenotproducts
